What an amazing show!

After finding myself in New York courtesy of “The Destination Lounge” (Thanks Jake). I couldn’t go home without watching a show on Broadway. And what a show!

I have to admit I wasn’t very clued up about the show before I went, I had heard it was good from other people, and when you already know part of a story curiosity drives to find out more, then, when  the bill boards in Time Square tease you with comments like “The untold story of the witches of OZ” So with BP preparing to take North Devon to “Oz” I thought I’d better find out what it’s all about.

Well, although I knew the story of “The Wizard of Oz”, I had no preconceptions of what “Wicked” was about. Right from the start the show captivated everyone in the audience, The Set, the music, the costumes, and of course the Cast were awesome, at times my eyeballs just weren’t adequate enough to take it all in.

The Show tells the story of Elphaba, aka The wicked witch of the west. and Glinda (the good) as they meet at school and grow up together. After getting off to a rocky start they become good friends and at one point you find yourself wondering “how does she becoming so evil?” But as the story unfolds each of witches begin to follow there destiny unbeknown to them what the future holds in store.

The storyline is very cleverly written and you get the feeling of lots of blanks (that you didn’t even realise were there) in “The Wizard of Oz” get filled in seamlessly. For me it was kind of like watching the new “Star Wars” Trilogy (bear with me)! You no how the Story ends; Darth Vader gets killed. So watching him grow up as hero Anakin skywalker, you learn to love him, and when he turns evil you just want to drop to your knees and shout noooooo to the sky! Well it’s kinda the same with “Wicked”. Elphaba is a good egg at heart, but she just gets manipulated and treated unfairly.

In summary I would recommend the show to everyone, young or old. But it’s really wet my appetite, now I can’t wait for “The Wizard of OZ”!
