Katherine Jenkins and Darcy Bussell, an interesting pair to go on tour together.
I was very apprehensive about going to this show as I'm not a classical fan but could not have wished for a more entertaining evening. Katherine Jenkins has a voice to die for, with power and sensitivity oozing from every note she sung and Darcy Bussell showing she has grace and a sense of humour.
The show has been put together as a tribute to icons, Katherine and Darcy have idolised. From the great 40's and 50's Hollywood to some of today's biggest stars. Some of the iconic stars included, Dame Shirley Bassey, Maria Callas, Doris Day, Audrey Hepburn, Judy Garland, Fred Astair, Marilyn Monroe.
Very well put together with inserts of dance from a troupe of dancers headed by Dary Bussell, out of all the dances we saw I would say my personal favourite was Carmen and a Fosse number also Diamonds are a Girls Best Friend, the Moulin Rouge version, which both Katherine and Darcy sing and dance.
I have never been a huge fan of Katherine Jenkins, but after the performance I may have been converted. The highlight for me was when she sang Somewhere from West Side Story, we are talking goose bumps and filling up with tears. She also showed how versatile she can be by attacking show numbers from Calamity Jane....incredible, another great performance was The Man that Got Away. Throughout both Katherine and Darcy were taken out of their comfort zones with Katherine having to dance (with some of the lifts she was involved in looking very nervous) and Darcy having to sing....cant say too much about that as could hardly hear her.
I would recommend anyone to go along to this and see for themselves as they are touring again next year with the same show.
