Last weekend a bunch of BPers (and a fellow thesp from BAOS), got a minibus and headed down to Truro to see the Truro Amateur Operatic Society's production of 'The Witches of Eastwick'.
And it was a good show!
Having seen a previous production in Shepton Mallet on a tiny stage, with a minimal set, it was great to see the show given 'the full works' treatment.
The lighting was pretty good to - with the exception of the scene where
the witches fly. They tried to use some UV lights on these floating
hearts - which worked well, but it meant they couldn't light the top of
the stage properly. So the side effect was that as soon as the witches
flew up, they vanished in darkness!
The final scene - with it's own collapsing church - worked really well. Singing voices were good, but I thought the principle's acting left a little to be desired.
Didn't really like the actor playing Daryll. He was far too cheesy. The only time he got a bit interesting was when he got 'angry'. Otherwise he was just loud.
Felicia was brilliant! She succeeded where Daryll failed by owning the stage the second she stepped on it! A great voice AND a great performance. She wasn't even phased when Clyde fed her the wrong line in her big song 'Evil'.
In the end we had a great time and now we can't wait to get started on our production!
